Archaeological Research
The mainstay of the research activities conducted by the organization is the preventive and rescue archaeological research. The purpose of such activities is to rescue movable and immovable heritage items and information which would be otherwise irreversibly lost, mostly as a result of construction works. Despite the fact there are more entities present on the market of archaeological preservation of historical monuments (both state and private owned non-profit organizations) than e.g. ten years ago, the demand keeps growing, as a result of the booming building industry, for qualified workplaces with good technical equipment, capable of conducting rescue archaeological activities subject to a permit issued by the Czech Ministry of Culture. The preventive or rescue archaeological research is the last option, once all other possibilities have been exhausted (e.g. the use of all non-destructive methods, tests research or prediction, based on the existing knowledge about the location) to outline a procedure which would minimize destruction of the location by the anticipated development. If these options have been exhausted or cannot be employed at all (due to investor’s plans), it is necessary to perform either preventive or rescue archaeological research at the best possible quality level. The research method should be adequate not only in terms of professional execution (resolution of specific issues) but also in terms of technical quality which should meet the current standards accepted by the archaeological science. The individual types of research differ by the form of performance (test, preventive or rescue, area exposure, probing in endangered places or mere supervision over excavation works). The selected type of research always reflects specific destructive actions in the given location and its inherent character (urban land plot, settlement, burial grounds etc.).
